Victorian Slate Game Board

Spare, linear and highly graphic incised Victorian slate game board (checkers or chess) with quarter-fan decorations at each of its four corners. The matte gold paint that fills all of the incised lines is a lovely contrast to the color of the blue-gray slate.

Countersunk holes at corners indicate prior attachment to a wooden frame (tabletop).

Pennsylvania, circa 1880s–1900s.

22 inches, square
