An outstanding antique “Touching Stars” pattern quilt in near perfect, unwashed condition, circa 1860–70s.
The color palette is typical Pennsylvania quirk, using patterned cotton fabrics: double pink, over-dyed green and white ground with small red dots.
Fabrics are all period cottons with original glazing intact with a somewhat courser cotton used for the backing. The piece is hand-stitched overall (instead of machine stitching).
I can only attribute it’s condition to it being a “best” quilt… one that was made, stored and only brought out for special occasions.
There are a few small spots and toning along folded line. These are typical of any textile which has been stored in pine box for extended periods (pictured and circled in magenta).
