A bold, graphic early 20th-century crazy quilt top. The fabrics are predominantly wool—both wovens and felts—with a scattering of lighter dress-weight scraps. A single blue-and-white striped piece appears to be a cotton/linen blend, adding a crisp note among the richer textures.
Pieced in nine blocks, the surface is a dense, kinetic collage of color and material: deep greens, clarets, navy, ochre, rose, and countless in-between shades in irregular fragments and joined with feather stitching. The result has the energy of abstract painting—arcs, angles, and unexpected seams creating a highly graphic, highly tactile period textile.
