Antique “Tree of Life” Stuffed Appliqué Quilt

Mid-19th-century stuffed appliqué quilt worked mostly in patterned fabrics and shades of red, green, and brown on a white ground, with fine quilting throughout and featuring a central “Tree of Life” surrounded by four starburst medallions.

The composition also incorporates sprawling grapevine scenes with birds and a squirrel at the top and bottom, floral vine borders along the sides, and scattered heart motifs in the ground. A very sweet detail included by its maker is the single flower along the right side, which has a bird perched next to it.

Schenectady, New York.
