Carved Wood Panel of Two Embracing Male Figures

Highly stylized carved wood (maple?) relief panel of two semi-nude male figures in close company — one with an arm draped across the other’s shoulder.

Classical in tone, modern or Art Deco in execution and handling. The torsos are rendered in broad, confident planes, the composition cropped and close with borders/framing accomplished with a frieze of grapevines, fruit and vegetables.

This unknown carver was skilled and spent considerable time on this composition.

Mid-20th century.
