Wonderful little portrait of a woman in a billowing blue dress in an early ebonized frame with bale hanger.
The style of this lady’s hair and dress date the portrait to the first quarter of the 19th century. Although this piece is on paper, the paint layer is built up in the same way it would be on ivory–delicately hatched and overlapping brush strokes of the thinnest color.
Piece is unsigned but has a partial inscription on the backing paper.
