Offered is a miniature folk art building portrait from a larger group originating from the Springfield, MA area.
The other buildings (four of them) from the group were churches and all labeled with the name and location of the actual church. With no steeple but tall windows and a gable end vestibule and door, this is perhaps also a church but one that was converted from a early to mid-19th century house (given the center door on the longest side).
In contrast to others I’ve handled and sold, this building’s sides and roof have the clapboard edges planed into them. In other words, instead of being flat panels or having thinly shaved clapboard attached, the planks used to make this model were grooved to simulate the appearance of overlapped siding.
