A true āJosephās Coatā pattern quilt with a field of rainbow stripes framed by a diagonally striped border.
The interior field is entirely waffle quilted, while the borders shift to a diamond shape with continuous lines running parallel to the wrapped edges.
The colors of the cottons have been softened by washing. The result is something more gentle than the original (and more typical) highly saturated palette.
Late 19th – early 20th century.
