Pair of red blanket boxes
Unusual to see a pair of blanket boxes, but more unusual to see a pair in which one is a miniature of the other. Obviously from the same maker with matching beaded lid and foot moldings. Dark red wash covers both although the smaller box has more wear on it's lid. Both bare the remains of original leather hinges which were later replaced with iron (late 19th or early 20th century). The bodies of the boxes are rabbeted and the nails (all square) are used dually as decoration.
